Cat6 cabling installation for cat5 prices

[Part #3 Cabling Tips 2012] Mike has been busy cabling around London but that doesn't mean he's too busy to offer cabling deals for Cat5e and Cat6 cabling jobs...

"CAT 6 is more superior and much more advanced in technology than CAT 5"

The type of cables you choose for your network at your work place or home, largely determines the performance of your computer networks. The decision of choosing the right cables depends on a lot of factors including geographical ones. For instance; Shielded copper twisted pair is standard in Europe whereas Unshielded twisted pair is mostly used in North America. Unshielded and shielded pairs are the two main categories, which are further divided into various sub-categories namely; CAT 3, CAT 5 and CAT 6. Here, we are talking about network cabling, so we will just concentrate on CAT 5 and CAT 6 categories of cables, as CAT 3 is majorly used in telephones.

As you may have guessed by now, CAT 6 is more superior and much more advanced in technology than CAT 5. However, that doesn’t make CAT 5 as an outdated model and it is still used in many areas such as token ring, ATM’s, 10- base-T-networking, 100- base-T-networking, and 1000- base-T-networking. Moreover, to cope with specially the increasing demands of users for the high speed data transfers, an enhanced version of CAT 5 cables called CAT 5e is also available in the market.

"CAT 6 is such a future proof technology that can attain the lightening fast data transfer speeds for you"

The fact of the matter is that you can only enhance the older technology up to a certain extent, but ultimately this technology is surely going to die a slow but sure death. In computer and IT, the advancements in technology are happening at exponential rates; therefore, it makes sense to opt for the latest and that too future proof technology. CAT 6 is such a future proof technology that can attain the lightening fast data transfer speeds for you.

"One important thing that makes CAT 6 cables such a superior choice over the other categories is its backward compatibility"

CAT 6 cables belong to the sixth generation of twisted pair Ethernet cables and are capable to deliver you the data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps. CAT6 cables contain four pairs of copper wire and all of them can be used for the Ethernet applications. One important thing that makes CAT 6 cables such a superior choice over the other categories is its backward compatibility. This just means they are fully compatible with the older standards such as CAT 5. Next thing is the build quality; they generally have a divider in the centre to separate different pairs of copper wires, hence, preventing interference. Since the chances of loss of data or signal in CAT 6 cables is minimal, you can get them in lengths as long as 100 meters, which is in sharp contrast to the CAT 5 cables where you can get the cables with length only  up to 50 meters.

"Proper distance must be maintained between the different cables when they are grounded"

No doubt there are numerous advantages of CAT 6 cables; however, proper care must be taken during their installation. They require much more precision and accuracy than the CAT5 or 5e cables. For instance, they should not be bent too tightly, and before installations just remember to untwist the wires and strip back the outer jacket for up to 0.5cm. Another important thing is the distance of the grounded cables. Proper distance must be maintained between the different cables when they are grounded. This distance can help you to avoid the most annoying problem of ground loops. The second most important thing to remember is that, in case of CAT 6 cables, the sheath is dielectric and actually carries the wave energy and when we strip the sheath back more than the recommended amount, it can effectively change the impedance of the twisted pair. This is something that can adversely affect their performance.
