Tips on How to Troubleshoot Your Broadband Internet Connection

Internet has become part of our daily lives. You can search almost anything on the web and connect with your distant relatives and loved ones from all over the world. You want your connection to be fast, so you can smoothly surf the web without any hassle to worry about. However, not all providers offer excellent and reliable connection. If you are sick and tired of your intermittent connection, learning how to troubleshoot your broadband connection is a smart way that you can do to fix your connection problem.

Here are some helpful broadband troubleshooting tips that you may want to consider when you face a trouble with your broadband.

Check the Cables

If you don’t have any connection on your router, the first thing that you should do is to check the cables. Make sure that all cables are properly plugged in to their corresponding ports. If you have a computer that is directly wired to your router, try transferring the cable to other ports and check if you can get a connection. If it doesn’t work, try using your spare cable, if you have one. Also, check the lights of your router. Power, LAN and the port where your computer is connected should light up.

Connect the Computer to Your Modem

When you’re done with the first few broadband troubleshooting steps and still not getting a connection, now is the time to connect your computer straight to your modem. Unplug the cable that connects your computer to your router and connect the cable of your modem directly to your computer. Check if you’re getting a connection by opening your browser and visiting your favourite website.

Power-cycle Your Router and Modem

If you’re still unable to get internet connection after doing those steps above, the next thing that you should do is to power-cycle your router and modem. Turn off you router and modem and unplug them from the electrical outlet. Wait for 10 seconds and plug them back to the outlet. Check again if you are getting a connection from your modem. If there is no connection, you may want to contact your provider and ask for technical assistance.
